Extended Warranties
When buying a new appliance most if not all retailers will ask you about purchasing an extended warranty or service plan. There are several misconceptions about this. Most consumer magazines will tell you not to buy them because they are not needed. What they don't tell you is that ALL appliance manufactures have changed their warranties to only cover the 1st year. After that you are not covered for anything, but what they will also do is contact you about purchasing their extended warranty. That warranty will usually cost you between $100 and $250 for an additional 3 years and you need to contact them for service. The usual wait for this service is 2-3 weeks. The consumer magazines left that part out. If you purchase an extended warranty or service plan from the retailer, it will usually cost between $99 to $169 for an additional 4 years on your appliance.
